SWAMI VIVEKANAND

SHIKSHA SAMITI

SVSS is dedicated to improving the lives of underprivileged children, girls, and villagers in rural areas. The foundation has undertaken several projects to achieve its goals. One of their projects involves educating children in rural areas who have limited access to education.

For girls, we have implemented a project to empower and educate them on their rights and choices. The foundation also provides health services such as medical camps and community health education for villagers to improve their living standards.

Moreover, the foundation has initiated rural development programs to provide sustainable livelihoods to villagers. Through these programs, villagers are trained on livelihood skills like farming, handicrafts, and other vocational skills which enable them to become self-sufficient. These projects help the foundation to make a difference in the lives of children, girls, and villagers, empowering them to lead better lives and create a better future.

SVSS aimed to prepare these children for mainstream education and provided vocational training opportunities. Additionally, SVSS ensured the convergence of services provided by different government departments/agencies for the benefit of these children and their families. Furthermore, the project is to contribute to the withdrawal of all adolescent workers from hazardous occupations/processes and facilitate their skilling and integration into appropriate occupations. This was achieved through the identification and withdrawal of all adolescent workers from hazardous occupations/processes, as well as by providing vocational training opportunities through existing skill development schemes. The awareness was raised among the stakeholders and target communities, and provide orientation to NCLP and other functionaries on the issues of ‘Child Labour’ and ’employment of adolescent workers in hazardous occupations and processes’. Proper monitoring of child labour, reporting and tracking was done by SVSS. Total 400 beneficiaries were supported under this project.

Rehabilitation and Prevention of Child labour

Rehabilitation and Prevention of Child labour

SVSS objective was to abolish child labour by universalizing elementary education. This includes enrolling and retaining all children aged 6 to 14 years in school, rescuing working children and ensuring their enrolment in full-time formal education. We aim to strengthen the bridge education system to motivate dropouts, child laborers, and neglected girl children to return to formal schooling. Furthermore, our focus is on repatriating and providing social, economic, educational, and psychosocial rehabilitation to children withdrawn from work. We enhanced the capacity of government duty bearers to take long-term ownership of the scheme, ensuring its sustainability. Additionally, we aimed to create widespread awareness about the evils of child labour and mobilize the community to build consensus against its ill effects. This includes sensitizing parents and the community to recognize the importance of children’s education. We established links between vulnerable families and social security schemes. Lastly, we implemented the state convergent Plan of Action on Child Labour, as notified by the social welfare department, to prioritize child welfare. This project was supported by Terre des hommes, Germany with 350 beneficiaries.

Tara Akshar

Tara Akshar

TARAAkshar+, an initiative of Development Alternatives (DA) Group, is an innovative ICT based programme which aims to provide functional literacy to adult women in 56 days through Akshar Gyan and TARAGanit, and thereafter through Gyan Chaupali in 6 months, which is a post literacy programme to supplement and promote neo-literacy. The impact of the TARA Akshar project was remarkable and diverse by Swami Vivekanand Shiksha Samiti. The organization have witnessed numerous success stories where individuals who were once illiterate have now actively participated in village administration, initiated their own businesses, and taken on the financial responsibilities of their families. Moreover, their relationships with family and community members have been revitalized, creating a positive shift in dynamics. The acquisition of literacy and financial knowledge has empowered them to break free from dependency on others for daily tasks. They have gained the confidence to handle bank transactions, maintain basic accounts, and understand the significance of investing in their children’s education. Additionally, they are addressing crucial issues that contribute to the betterment of the entire neighbourhood. The following report demonstrates the improvements across various aspects of their lives. Total 16980 of beneficiaries were impacted under this project.

Kashturba Gandhi Project

Kashturba Gandhi Project

Gender disparities continue to exist in rural areas and among disadvantaged communities, persisting despite the progress made. Enrolment patterns reveal substantial disparities in the enrolment of girls at the elementary level, particularly at the upper primary levels, in comparison to boys. The primary goal of the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) initiative is to provide girls from marginalized groups in society with access to quality education. This is achieved through the establishment of residential schools specifically targeting the upper primary level. The KGBV program aims to bridge the gender gap in education and ensure that girls from disadvantaged backgrounds have equal opportunities to receive education of high standards. This Project was supported by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. In this project 100 girls were provided quality education.
