Nearly four decades journey of SVSS can conveniently be divided into four distinct periods of 10 years each.

Decade 1970-80

  • Primary and junior schools established

  • Rural library and recreational centre for under privileged children launched

  • Established higher secondary school for girls
  • Cultural programmes for social and moral reforms

  • More than 2,000 girls in higher secondary schools
  • Built up several cultural teams in the district for spreading social and moral reformation

  • Skill upgradation and vocational training for girls
  • Implementation of RADHA Project for spreading awareness on development and health
  • Organisation of women labourers into groups for improving their health and imparting knowledge about agricultural activities
  • Total literacy mission

  • Formation and strengthening of cluster association of WSHGs at bank level
  • Computer literacy for girls
  • Community based development project mother and child care
  • Special school for child labour
  • Entrepreneurship development programme

Outcome

  • Thousands of women organised into SHGs
  • Corpus of Rs 10 lakh developed to meet urgent credit need of poor woman
  • Computer education imparted to 60 poor girls
  • 1,59,854 males and females being benefited through CBD programme

  • Approximately 1,000 children in the age group 0-5 years provided nutrition and educational support since 1974
  • 2,000 children, who were either child labour or dropout children, linked with mainstream education
  • More than 250 WSHGs and other informal women organisations formed
  • Several sensitisation programmes carried out to build capacity of panchayat representatives, particularly women
  • Informal organisations of people formed for the right of land holding
  • Local people-based peer pressure group formed to raise the issue of child labour, domestic violence and odd customs prevailing in the society as well as poverty and illiteracy
  • Some formal groups of child labour formed to raise their issues like education, health and nutrition. These groups graduated into Children’s Parliament
